Eating in Helsinki

Bar Loosister

Bar Loosister was our first meal in Helsinki. It reminded me of a small-scale Hard Rock Cafe. The walls were painted red and there were framed photos of rock bands. You seat yourself and then order from the bar along the back wall of the restaurant. The menu includes pizzas, burgers and a couple salads. We both ordered the Tree Hugger Burger, which included a large piece of seasoned tofu and came with a side of fries. We were very impressed as well as stuffed afterward!

Cafe Veganissimo

Oh my! This place was amazing! The restaurant is not much from the outside, so it’s easy to miss. It’s set up like a buffet, with a few different lunch options per day, all of which are vegan. When we went, the two main courses were risotto and seitan soup. We decided on the seitan soup and it was delicious and warmed us up! Our meal also came with salad, homemade bread and a cup of tea.

Grocery Store

In order to save money, we bought a majority of our meals from the small grocery store that was down the street from our apartment. Our staple was pasta with tomato sauce and rolls.

Eating in Helsinki

One of my favorite websites for finding vegetarian restaurants is called Happy Cow. You can look up the city you're in and it lists restaurants and shops with vegetarian/vegan food. You can also read and leave reviews for your favorite restaurants. It's super helpful!
