Iceland Wedding Video | Lisa + Alex | Iceland Wedding Videographer

Alex and I spent six days in Iceland this February. Last April, Alex proposed to me on the wing of the crashed DC-3 plane on Solheimasandur outside of Vik, Iceland. Iceland will always have a special place in both of our hearts. Not only is it stunningly beautiful and naturally diverse, it is also full of such warm and welcoming people. Can we just live in Reykjavik, please?

We are getting married on Isle of Skye, Scotland this November and having a laid-back Colorado reception this August. When we booked our trip to Iceland, we came up with the idea to do our first look there. So we packed up my wedding dress and Alex's suit in a carry-on suitcase and brought them with us to Iceland.

Our first full morning in Reykjavik, we woke up just after 3am (thank you jet lag) and quickly got ready and got on the road. We headed to Thingvellir National Park in hopes of spotting the Northern Lights. The Aurora Forecast showed clear skies with a high chance of the lights appearing. After getting lost in the dark a few times, we finally pulled into the empty parking lot of Silfra, which is where the North American and Eurasian Plates meet. There, we caught our first glimpse of the lights. We looked up above us and saw a white dancing of lights in the clouds. As the sun started to rise, we were unsatisfied with what we saw, everything was hidden behind the clouds that rolled in. Fortunately, we saw them that night and the next morning too!

Later that afternoon, we drove down to the Reykjanes Peninsula to see the Krysuvik Geothermal Pools. The roads surrounding the area were snowy and surrounded by stunning mountains. We both agreed that these mountains would be the perfect backdrop for our first look. Alex changed into his suit in the front seat of our 4x4 rental car and I changed in the backseat. It wasn't ideal, but we did this so many times during the trip, that we got pretty good at it. The area we chose for our first look was nestled in the mountains and it helped protect us from the freezing Icelandic winds, so I barely even noticed that it was 0°C outside (for about 10 minutes at least before I started to shiver).

The next day, we drove down the South shore of Iceland along the Ring Road. We stopped at Seljalandsfoss and explored Gljúfrabúi, the "hidden waterfall." Gljúfrabúi is amazing and has become one of my favorite sights in Iceland! The only way to get to it is to enter through a large crack in the rock and wade through the river (there are stepping stones). It's beyond magical! Then we continued down the coast and stopped at Reynisfjara, also known as the black sand beach outside of Vik. The waves were insanely high and the entire beach was closed. We had lunch in Vik and then continued to Kirkjubæjarklaustur where we spent the night.

The next morning, we got up before sunrise and made our way to Jökulsárlón, which is a glacial lagoon. It's known for the crystal clear icebergs that wash up onto the beach. There, we saw some adorable and playful seals! The lagoon was mostly empty, but it was still beautiful. Then we started our journey back toward Reykajvik, stopping a few times along the way.

On our last full day in Iceland, we drove up to the Snæfellsnes Peninsula. We drove in and out of snow and rain and sunshine. We ate lunch in Hellnar (there's a little cafe at the tourist center that has the best mushroom soup). Then we continued to Djúpalónssandur, which is another one of my favorite places in Iceland. We had the entire beach to ourselves and enjoyed the quiet for a while until another storm came in.

On our way to the airport on our final day, we stopped at the Blue Lagoon so Alex could see it. We explored the little pathways surrounding the pool before heading to Keflavik International Airport. Our trip felt like it went by way too quickly! But I know we'll go back to Iceland soon!

We hope you enjoy our Iceland wedding video! We had so much fun standing under waterfalls and carefully tiptoeing through the lava fields.
