Ta Prohm is one of the more famous temples in the Angkor Wat Complex. This is partly because scenes from Tomb Raider starring Angelina Jolie were filmed there. I’ll be honest, I haven’t actually seen Tomb Raider, but I was still excited to visit Ta Prohm.
Ta Prohm was crowded. We had to squeeze our way through crowds of people waiting to get their photo taken in front of “the spot”. We continued walking and ended up veering off in a direction away from the other tourists. There were partially destroyed corridors that we walked through and finally we found a shaded area to sit down and drink some water. We joked about how long it must take to film any movie scene in Cambodia because it only took a minute to become hot and sweaty.
There are so many trees growing in Ta Prohm! It is incredibly beautiful to see how nature has started to reclaim the temples as its own. The trees have ragged roots that spill down the stone bricks. It’s impossible not to look up at the trees in awe.
